Today is Cinco de Mayo, which is a very important day for Mexico. For this assignment we were asked a few questions that we need to answer.
Why is it celebrated?
It is celebrated because it's the day the Mexican army had finally defeated the Napoleon's (the third) French forces at the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
What is Cinco de Mayo?
It's the day that Mexico had gotten it's victory over the Napoleon's French forces at the battle of Puebla. Just like stated above.
Is there a difference between Cinco de Mayo & Mexican Independence Day?
Yes, there is a difference. Mexican Independence Day takes place on September 16th which is the day we declared our independence from Spain, whereas Cinco de Mayo was the French-Mexican battle.
Will my family do anything to celebrate?
No, from what I know of we aren't really celebrating it. Not the actual holiday, but it is our family friends birthday as well so we're only dropping off a gift.
