Careers In Multimedia

Careers in the Multimedia:

  • 3D Designers

  • Level Designers

  • Graphic Designers

  • Art Directors

  • Film & Video Editors & Camera Operators

The topic that I chose to write about is:

Film & Video editor & Camera operators

Film & Video Editors: They are people who manipulate images that entertain or inform an audience.

Camera Operators: They capture a wide range of material like T.V. , movies, & other medias.

What The Work Involves:

  • Shoot & record television programs, films, music videos, documentaries, news, or sporting events

  • Organize digital footage with video-editing software

  • Collaborate with a director to determine the overall vision of the productions

  • Discuss filming & editing techniques with a director to improve a scene

  • Selecting the appropriate equipment like lighting or type of lens

  • Shoot or edit a scene based on the director's vision

Quick Summary:

The camera operators supervise one or more assistants. The assistant sets up the camera equipment & may be responsible for the storage & care, They also help out the operator by determining what angle is best to shoot & making sure the camera is in focus.

The editors have one or more assistants, they support the editor by keeping track of each shot in a database or loading digital video into an editing bay. They can also do some editing tasks.

Pay:

The median annual wage for camera operators was $57,200 in May 2020. The lowest 10% earned less than $29,140 & the highest 10% earned more than $123,220.

The median annual wage for film & video editors was $67,250 in May 2020. The lowest 10% earned less than $34,870 & the highest 10% earned more than $152,720.

The pay varies depending on which branch you go into like motion picture & video industries or television broadcasting.

Where Can You Be Trained/Schools:

To become a film & video editor/camera operator typically you need a bachelor's degree in a field related to film or broadcasting. For new employees other employers may offer training in type of specialized editing software that the employer uses. Most editors specialize on one type of software, but the beginners need to get familiar with all. Editors can demonstrate competence in various types of editing software by earning certification, which is offered by software vendors. Certification requires passing a comprehensive exam, & candidates can prepare for the exam on their own, through online tutorials or classroom instructions.

Schools:

  1. University of Southern California (USC)

  2. UCLA

  3. Chapman University

  4. New York University (NYU)

  5. Wesleyan University

Why Does This Job Interest Me? Or Not:

At first, I didn't even know what kind of job this was or what it was even about until doing research for this assignment. After being able to explore more about this career & understand the doings of it, it kind of does interest me. I find it fascinating on what the career is actually all about. I find this job cool, I mean being able to be apart of projects that people get to watch & admire seems pretty awesome. I do enjoy taking video for good projects & being able to have your imagination come to life, or helping out someone else & their visions on things. I think I should do more research about these careers & figure out more of my interests.
